We seek to recruit a highly qualified candidate for the following position in the Commission’s Provisional Technical Secretariat:

Duties and responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Chief, Policy Making Organ Secretariat Support Section, the Chief, Editor will carry out the following duties:
Plans, schedules and coordinates the editorial processing of documents and other texts; evaluate the suitability of manuscripts sent for editing; ensure proper quality control of documents in process and provide final editorial clearance for all edited texts prior to being released for printing and publication;
Participates in the planning and scheduling of the processing of documents and other texts by the Section;
Works collaboratively with other colleagues from the Section to achieve organizational goals and to deliver quality output in a timely, professional and efficient manner, and in a manner that is fully aligned with the policy for the processing of documentation;
Consults with submitting officers and carries out research to clarify ambiguities and rectify substantive errors;
Keeps up-to-date the editorial guidelines for the Provisional Technical Secretariat (PTS) to ensure consistency in editorial practices and provide advice to all PTS areas on editorial procedures and practice; participate in the development of the official documentation system and of the Document Management System, including document workflow, dissemination via the Experts Communication System, archiving and searching;
Ensures that documentation and reports prepared in the PTS for presentation at meetings, to be placed on the website or for other purposes are in conformity with standard PTS editorial practice, editing documentation both in hard copy and online to ensure consistency and adequacy of style and language;
Represents the PTS on the Joint Committee on VIC Common Printing Services and liaise with other VIC-based organizations on editorial and production practices;
Provides guidance and advice to the staff within and outside the Section on matters concerning editorial policy and practice;
Trains other staff in the drafting of documentation; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in English or in a related field. Professional training of the candidate in drafting technical texts in English is an asset.
At least seven years relevant working experience in editing of documentation, including technical texts, and experience in planning and coordinating the production of documents and manuscripts. Working experience in an international organization is an asset;
Excellent command of English, which must be the candidate’s mother tongue, is required. Knowledge of other languages is desirable.

Teamwork: Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals; solicits inputs genuinely valuing others ' ideas and expertise; is willing to learn from others; supports and acts in accordance with final group decision, even when such decisions may not entirely reflect own position; shares credit for team accomplishments and accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings; places team agenda before personal agenda.

UNEP offers an attractive remuneration package with competitive pay and benefits. The level of pay for internationally recruited staff is set within scales comparable to United Nations salaries. The indicative annual net base for this particular post includes a starting tax free salary of US$ 70,647, plus a variable Post Adjustment which stands at 43.3% . The post adjustment is reviewed from time to time in line with the provisions that apply to staff in other comparable International Organizations.
Additional benefits attached to the post include, where applicable, dependency allowance, education grant, rental subsidy, six weeks annual leave and home leave travel every two years. The salary offered is subject to deductions of contributions to the UNEP Provident Fund and Health Insurance Scheme.
